Rooted Words: Reclaiming Purpose Through Storytelling and Social Capital

Nonprofit fundraisers often carry the weight of mission-driven work—yet burnout, storytelling fatigue, and donor pressure can leave even the most passionate advocates feeling disconnected. In this interactive workshop led by poet and community strategist Araceli Esparza, participants will explore the deeper story behind their “why” through guided writing exercises rooted in metaphor, repetition, and reflection.

Together, we’ll uncover the power of narrative as a renewable source of motivation, connection, and strategy. Participants will also explore how to tap into social capital—the relationships, trust, and cultural insight already within their reach—to reinvigorate messaging, fundraising language, and personal mission statements.

My mission is to empower individuals, groups, and organizations to harness the power of storytelling, build authentic relationships, and create inclusive spaces that foster equity, leadership, and sustainable community engagement. 

Araceli is a highly-rated diversity speaker with over eight years of experience as a nonprofit consultant and group facilitator. She collaborates with individuals, groups, and organizations to strengthen their commitment to attracting and retaining diversity in jobs, community, and economic development. Additionally, Araceli is the founder of Midwest Mujeres and a podcaster!
