Q&A with Fundraising Day Speaker Angela Marino, Relevant Thread Consulting

Q: You’re joining us for Fundraising Day! What’s your session (Breaking Down Silos with Shared Language, How Cohesive Messaging Drives Fundraising Success) all about?
A: It’s about how the language you use can make or break your fundraising strategy. Nonprofits often operate in silos—program, development, marketing, leadership—all using slightly different language to talk about the mission and impact. This results in mixed messages, unclear priorities, and fundraising efforts that don’t quite land. My session will show how to build a shared language across teams so that everyone is aligned and speaking with one voice, internally and externally. I call it “singing from the same songbook.” When that happens, donors feel more confident, staff feel more connected, and you’re able to amplify your fundraising efforts.

Q: Who is this session for?
A: Fundraising professionals who feel like they're constantly re-explaining the "why" behind their work. Leaders who are managing organizational change and want their teams aligned behind new goals. And anyone who’s ever said, “We have a great story, but we’re just not telling it well.” This is about solving that.

Q: Why Fundraising Day Wisconsin?
A: Because I always appreciate an AFP conference! It’s a space full of smart, committed nonprofit professionals who are trying to make impactful change, and who are often doing it with limited time, stretched teams, and high expectations. I’m excited to bring tools that make their work a little clearer, a little easier, and a lot more impactful.

Q: What will attendees walk away with?
A: Tools to get everyone on the same page—literally. You’ll leave with a framework for identifying language gaps inside your organization, a method for aligning teams around shared messaging, and real-world examples of how to translate your strategy into clear, confident donor communication. Whether you're in the thick of a fundraising effort or leading through change, you’ll walk away with messaging techniques that build trust, cut through noise, and drive action.

Q: Where can we connect with you in advance?
A: You can always find me on LinkedIn, where I share insights on nonprofit change communications, internal alignment, and messaging strategy. I love connecting with nonprofit leaders, fundraisers, and marketers who are navigating change and looking for fresh ways to move their organizations forward.
