Breaking Barriers

About the Event

A panel of three women with intellectual disabilities will share their experiences in attending college. They participated in an innovative program called the Cutting-Edge Program at Edgewood College. Dr. Hafner will share her research on how to change the culture of a college campus in order to gain acceptance and belonging for students with disabilities who have typically not been able to be admitted into college.

The presentation will also include a group discussion about “Disability Etiquette”. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the correct way to approach individuals with disabilities at work, in public and in social gatherings. The panel will share tips on interacting with people who have different abilities with the goal of building confidence for future engagement with people with disabilities.
