Beth Larson, Board Member At Large
Director of Institutional Giving, Overture Center for the Arts

How long have you been an AFP member? 4 years

Why did you join the AFP board? Since becoming a development professional, AFP has been an invaluable resource to me. From networking to informational programming events, I have taken advantage of so much AFP has offered to the community of development in Madison. I would now like to help give back to that community and build upon the incredible work that AFP does for philanthropy and nonprofits in our community.

What you are most looking forward to as a board member? I am looking forward to working on the Scholarship Committee to help support new and advancing development professionals achieve their professional development goals and have new experiences.

In general, why do you enjoy development/fundraising? I enjoy connecting people with the organizations and programs that make our community the amazing place it is to live.

Creal Zearing, Professional Development Chair
Director of Philanthropy, Gathering Waters: Wisconsin’s Alliance for Land Trusts

How long have you been an AFP member? Without knowing an exact number off the top of my head, let's say this is my 5th year.

Why did you join the AFP board? Because Sarah Linn asked me and I would do probably anything for that woman! :) No, but seriously, as I have gotten to know more and more people through AFP, I have found not only a group of professionals who I can bounce questions off of and learn from but also a group of friends. I was really honored to be asked to be on the board and this is a great way for me to give back to an organization that has given me so much and to all of my peers.

What you are most looking forward to as a board member? I am looking forward to creating professional development opportunities that meet the needs of those around me. My coworker just joined AFP this year and is our Annual Giving Manager. I told her I wanted to help create offerings that she was interested in. I also recently took a walk with another AFP colleague who is fairly new to her role and we brainstormed some offerings that would really help her. It is fun to know that I can (hopefully) make a positive impact for those people who I know personally.

In general, why do you enjoy development/fundraising? Who doesn't answer this question with "the relationships"?! So I'll go a slightly different direction. My organization is a statewide conservation organization. In my role, I have gotten to travel and see a variety of beautiful outdoor places in Wisconsin. This is probably the best perk of my job and I feel like I've only just scratched the surface of places to see and people to meet in Wisconsin.

Favorite TV show of all time? Queer Eye! That show is amazing-- uplifting, beautiful, funny, and warm. In a world that has so much doom and gloom, it legitimately feels like a ray of hope.

Erin Krysinski, Treasurer
Senior Staff Accountant, SVA

How long have you been an AFP member? December 2021

Why did you join the AFP board? For the past number of years, other individuals at SVA have been the treasurer of the board. When the treasurer position became open, they recommended I take over the treasurer position. All three only had great things to say about the organization and thought it would be a good fit for me.

What you are most looking forward to as a board member? As this is my first board position, I am excited to learn everything there is about being a board member. I am also excited to widen my network and meet new people.

In general, why do you enjoy development/fundraising? I enjoy fundraising for the impact it can have on organizations/society.

Favorite TV show of all time? Friends

How long have you been an AFP member? 2002? Around then. I first joined the chapter in Tucson, AZ

Why did you join the AFP board? Because I have been on the boards of AFP in both Tucson, and Denver I wanted to share and learn.

What you are most looking forward to as a board member? Meeting colleagues and getting to know our new community better.

In general, why do you enjoy development/fundraising? I love to share stories and apply the power of money to do good in our communities and the world.
