National Philanthropy Day 2024 – Nominations Open
National Philanthropy Day, or NPD, is an annual celebration held in November to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – to the enrichment of our world. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and those who make it possible.
The idea of NPD was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s, and the first official events held in 1986 after President Reagan signed the official National Philanthropy Day proclamation. Last year, more than 130 AFP chapters held NPD events and activities across North America, including an event here in Madison.
This year marks the 37th Annual AFP Greater Madison Chapter National Philanthropy Day celebration. However, the 2024 event will feature an exciting change: a brand-new location! National Philanthropy Day will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at MYArts (1055 E Mifflin St, Madison, WI 53703). The event will also shift from the previously held luncheon to an evening event, with cocktails and light snacks served.
One of the hallmark moments of the event is the recognition of the National Philanthropy Day Honorees. Nominations for an award is a great way to honor individuals and organizations within the community for their philanthropic endeavors. For this year’s event, there will be honorees for seven categories:
-
Outstanding Individual Philanthropist
-
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy (Individual or group, age 25 and under)
-
Outstanding Fundraising Professional
-
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser
-
Lifetime Achievement
-
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization or Foundation
-
Outstanding Business or Corporation
Nominations for the 2024 event are now open – submit an application here for a nominee. You can also review the nomination process to learn more about how honorees are selected and what makes a strong candidate.
In addition to submitting a nomination, you can also get involved with NPD by:
