Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month Food for Thought

Annually, September 15 through October 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month (also called National Latinx Heritage Month). It’s an official commemoration of Latinx and Hispanic culture, history, and achievement in the United States.

This Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month, take a moment to consider the importance of Latinx-led nonprofit organizations in our community and the contributions of greater Madison’s wider Latinx community.

To give you some food for thought in that area, check out these archival interviews. AFP Madison has interviewed Development professionals supporting Latinx causes each of the past few years of Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month.

From 2023: Oscar Mireles reflects on the importance of Latinx cultural programming and the need for community involvement in creating an inclusive and welcoming Madison.

From 2022: Baltazar De Anda Santana speaks to the importance of career development, investing in the Latinx community, and creating opportunities for economic stability and advancement.

From 2021: Faatima Khan, Marcos Lozana, and Karime Perez share their experience addressing health disparities, community support, education, culturally competent care, and more in Madison’s Latinx communities.
