Director of Development & Community Engagement

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000

Job Summary:

This role leads Heartland’s fundraising and external engagement efforts, helping build a strong and sustainable community of supporters inspired by our mission. With fundraising as the primary focus, the Director develops and implements annual and long-term giving strategies; nurtures donor, partner, and community relationships; and oversees all giving channels including major gifts, annual giving, monthly supporters, grants, and campaigns. This role also guides community engagement and visitor experiences — from partnerships and volunteer connections to donor and public tours — ensuring the community feels welcomed, informed, and inspired. Additionally, the Director oversees external communications and storytelling to amplify Heartland’s mission, celebrate impact, and deepen belonging. As part of the leadership team, this role collaboratively shapes strategy, supports a healthy organizational culture, and ensures decisions align with Heartland’s values of compassion, connection, and care for animals, people, and the earth.
