Associate Development Director
American Players Theatre is searching for a dynamic and enthusiastic fundraiser to join its development team. The team consists of a Development Director, two Associate Development Directors, and a Donor Relations Manager. The Associate Development Director will report to the Development Director and work closely with the Managing Director.
The charge of the Associate Development Director is to identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors in their financial support for American Players Theatre. They will be responsible for building and managing a portfolio of current and potential donors, largely drawn from APT’s audience/donor base but also from corporate, foundation and other individual sources. They will work with existing donors in establishing an ever-deepening relationship with APT, and must also cultivate and solicit new donors. The Associate Development Director will also participate in staff functions of the department, which may include serving on Board committees, writing appeals and proposals, or event management based on the successful candidate’s interests and strengths.
The successful candidate will thrive in a very highly collaborative environment, both within the development department and throughout the organization. They should crave getting to know people and talking to them about APT, and they will have experience creating successful business relationships and guiding stakeholders to connect more deeply with the organizations they promote. Since most constituents visit APT on evenings and weekends, the successful candidate should be in a position to work a flexible schedule, especially during the performance season, June through November. Prior knowledge of and enthusiasm for American Players Theatre is a plus.
Full COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment at APT.
Work Days/Hours: The Associate Development Director is a full-time, year-round position and offers flexibility for remote work. Hours are flexible but generally within normal business hours from October-May. Evening and weekend hours are required during the APT season, June-November.
Salary range is $53,000-$55,000 with a benefits package that includes PTO, health/dental/life insurance, and a 403(b) plan.
APT is an equal opportunity employer who believes that a rich diversity of people, ideas and experiences makes us stronger and the commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is vital to our work. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) applicants and candidates from populations underrepresented in the theater field are strongly encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, familial status, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or veteran status.
About American Players Theatre
American Players Theatre is a professional theater located just outside Spring Green, Wisconsin. Situated on 110 acres of hilly woods and meadows, APT has two theaters, the newly renovated 1089-seat outdoor amphitheater and the 201-seat indoor Touchstone Theatre. From June through November, APT produces nine plays in rotating repertory. With annual attendance of over 110,000 and an annual budget of $8 million, APT ranks as the country’s second largest outdoor theater devoted to the classics. The Wall Street Journal said APT was “America’s finest classical theater festival, unrivaled for the unfailing excellence of its productions.”
At APT, we believe that how we do our work is as important as the work we do, so we strive to be an organization based on trust, respect, personal responsibility, true collaboration and shared delight in constant improvement. For more on this, check out our values, Anti-Racism Vision and Action Plan and our Land Acknowledgement here.
Pre-pandemic, APT’s development department raised 25%-30% of the theater’s operations income. The APT Foundation, established in 2013, has assets of $10 million. The theater is in the planning stage for an Artistic Advancement Campaign to raise additional endowment funds.
